…….2011 gave to me
THREE THUNDERBOLT THEMES
To be honest, there were countless beautiful weddings that we worked on this year, each one is special and we are so lucky to play a part in creating so many happy memories. Most of my brides want something extra special with regard to their flowers and by understanding exactly what it is that they want to achieve in terms of style and atmosphere there is always something different and unique about every wedding we work on. We have got so many weddings still saved up to share with you but there were three exceptional schemes that we created this year, that weren’t just about beautifying with flowers, but creating extraordinary backdrops to incredible days.
Caitlin and Jonny – Winchester College – Lanterns and Ribbon Scheme
This scheme was all about youth, fun, joyful summer colour with elements of a classic English marquee wedding for Caitlin’s American family to experience. Jonny’s father is the Chaplin of Winchester College – and therefore was able to marry his son in the school chapel. It is a hidden gem, exquisite in detail and atmosphere. Cocktails were served in the cloisters with ribbon streamers decorating the magnolia trees and the reception was in a marquee on the cricket lawn overlooked by the beautiful college buildings.
We had an all white scheme in the elaborate chapel, it needed nothing more. And then we created a wonderful splash of colour by hanging 200 lanterns in the roof of the marquee in pinks and oranges. We created a high and low scheme using classic English blooms, there is so more to show you from this wedding but here are the highlights, shot by the wonderful Zoe Collyer who captured the day so perfectly.
Kayleigh and Jack – The Tithe Barn – Woodland Scheme
Kayleigh chose a rustic barn in the heart of beautiful Hampshire countryside. She wanted to create a completely natural feel incorporating trees. Her other great love is colour, and having the most wonderful personality – fun and fabulous, it was clear that we needed to work with deep and vibrant jewel colours.
We designed a fabulous tree as the centre piece in the barn, we used 15 foot trees to line the walls of the barn and with the tables arranged in a banquet style we decorated them with 140 floral arrangements and 1000 candles. It was BEAUTIFUL. Tony Whitmore shot the stunning images below and again, we have so much more to come on this beautiful wedding including a fabulous video, but here is just a taste of Tony’s work.
Katie and Toby – Private marquee, Alderholt – Vintage Glamour Christmas
As soon as I received the call from Katie, I knew that this was no ordinary wedding. With a two level marquee, a wedding dress designed by one of the greats, a candle lit church and a colour scheme that is my all time favourite for Christmas, I couldn’t wait to get designing the floral scheme.
The church we kept very traditional, lich gate decorations, wreaths on the doors, sheath pillar decorations, scented Christmas candles in the entrance and large urns. The marquee had Christmas trees at the entrance, the most amazing white space for cocktails, canapes and dancing. We decorated this area with fabulously large hanging mistletoe balls. And the finale was the most amazing starlit dining area up the stairs, decorated with uber glamorous crystal glassware using 3 different heights. The scheme was rich velvety burgandy, mocha, pistachio green and a pale vintage pink. It was the perfect end of the year event for us. So much more to come on this wedding…..
With the biggest thanks to Tony Whitmore who captured our work in 2011. He has created the most beautiful videos of both the Woodland scheme and the Candlelit Christmas – to be featured very soon.
